Shedding light on people challenges at Daylight

HR Dept

About:

The Daylight Company is a lighting specialist company in Greater London that designs and supplies task and magnifying lamps engineered to replicate natural daylight. Its products focus on improving visibility, colour accuracy and comfort for detailed work.

The challenge:

The opportunity at The Daylight Company was to improve employee engagement, reduce employee turnover, and reduce sickness absence rates.

The Solution:

  • We implemented revised terms and conditions and communicated policies to reinforce expectations regarding ways of working and absence policies.
  • We introduced structured performance reviews and developed a new employee benefits package alongside a profit share scheme.
  • We undertook a company-wide employee engagement survey to understand the key drivers behind engagement, retention and absence, and to identify key priorities.
  • We trained line managers in effective people management to improve consistency, confidence and accountability, while providing on-site, impartial HR support and guidance to the leadership team.

The outcome:

As a result, employee engagement increased by 12 points, rolling 12-month employee turnover reduced from 44% to 9%, and days off sick and medical appointments dropped by over 60%.

In addition, two potential legal cases were resolved without the need for payment, and the business achieved 100% compliance across employment terms and conditions.

“We have worked closely with Sandra and her team over the last 2 years.  We have received a lot of practical advice, which we acted on. Without that advice, we would not have been able to transform our business.

We are extremely satisfied with our relationship. HR Dept has helped us through a number of important issues/crises (often hands-on), which we would not have been able to navigate without them.  The cost savings have demonstrated a significant return on investment.

The HR support helps our business grow and are extremely good value. Basically, better value than a full-time HR Manager/Director, with far more resources and wider skills.”– Patrick Jacquelin, Managing Director, The Daylight Company
